Hi you all! Today I will share with you one of my favorite projects: my wire family. You may watch the video tutorial at my instagram account @handmade_selen . Would be so happy if you follow me here and at instagram 💕💕

Wire Sculptures

Wire is such a lovely medium to work with. Depending on the gauge or thickness of the wire, it’s really easy and fun to shape. You may twist, wrap, braid or weave with it.

Here is my first tip for this project: the best and cheapest wire may be found in a hardware store: copper, brass, and aluminum wires and baling wire would be fine for this craft.

You need to choose a wire that is easy to bend with your hands otherwise you will need some pliers that would make things more difficult.

To start, you’ll need to cut a piece of wire long enough to create your shape. Decide roughly how big you want your sculpture to be – overestimating is better because you can trim it down in case of need

Then, start bending the wire.

I use my hands to sculpt and form the wire, and use pliers only to make a sharp bend or for joining and twisting two pieces together.

So twist and braid and loop and turn the wire and create the form in your mind.

After you form the silhoutte, you can attach additional wire parts, such as the hair, arms and the tail of the cat.

You can wrap it around the other wire a few times, or you can simply bend the end to attach it.

To attach my additional wire pieces, I used my pliers to bend and twist the wire.

When your wire family is ready, you may finish your project at this point or dress them like I did.

If you do not dress them, your craft will look like this ❤️

For the clothes, I had some printouts that look like vintage fabric and old books.

Then I simply glued these paper to my wire sculptures.

Then comes the very last step: attaching the wire sculptures to some sort of stand. For a natural look I used a driftwood, I had collected from the beach. You may also use any other wood base or a stand, you may make with clay.

I used my wire to poke some holes in the driftwood where my sculptures would sit and that is all! Enjoy your beautiful customized decor!

What gauge wire did you use? This project isn't as easy as it looks! Thanks🧚
