Hi all, and thank you so much for stopping by to check out this post (YouTube video below too).

I'm big into resin and even bigger into making it accessible to all skill levels so if you're brand new to this medium or just getting started then you're in safe hands.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

*Always use the necessary protective wear when handling resin.

Just so you know, I have a YouTube video of this exact project up on my channel now. Simply click the video link above to watch.

Whilst you're there, leaving me a little 👍🏻 would be amazing as well as subscribing for all the crafty content I have to offer 😃

STEP 1 - DUSTING

Place strips of tape across the bottoms of each coaster mold cavity. You want the tape to stretch the whole way across the base and up the sides too.

Press the tape down firmly to squeeze out any little air bubbles along the edge for a nice crisp line.

Next, dip a Q-tip (or 'cotton bud' as we say in the UK ☺️) into metallic mica powder and dust this onto one side of the taped off mold.

Get right into the corners and up the sides too.

Don't be afraid to lay it on thick. You want a nice opaque gold strip at the end.

STEP 2 - PEEL BACK

Blow away any excess mica powder and then it's time to peel off the tape. Oh boy is this part satisfying, savour it!

You should now have lovely clean lines where the tape once was.

STEP 3 - MAKING MARBLE

To make your 'marble', mix up approx 250mls of resin and separate out 30mls of this fully mixed resin into a smaller container.

I used a 1:1 formula resin so 125mls of the 250mls was hardener and the other 125mls was the resin. Both parts come together when you buy resin.

Colour the larger portion of resin white using liquid pigment and the smaller portion black.

I've noted in the list of materials that you can use acrylic paints if you don't have resin pigments. I haven't tried this exact project using acrylic paints instead of pigments but I have recently experimented colouring resin with acrylic paints and it work perfectly 👍🏻 Just add small amounts of paint at a time. Resin doesn't like moisture so the less moisture you add, the better.

Now it's time to combine your white and black resin portions. Pour the black into the white.

STEP 4 - POURING YOUR COASTERS

Give the new black-white resin portion a gentle mix with a long stick and divide it evenly between your coaster molds.

Use a blow torch to pop surface bubbles.

Now using your heat gun, blow into each coaster mold cavity and blend the black and the white together. You want to avoid creating a solid grey colour but you want to go from harsh swirl lines to a blended marble look.

Keep going until you think you've mixed and blended the 2 colours enough. Remember, it's the reverse side that will be the coaster top so you won't know exactly how it's looking until you demold them.

Leave the resin now to fully cure.

STEP 5 - DEMOLD

Once the resin has fully cured, demold them from the silicone and watch the gold mica come right out of the mold with the resin.

Easy faux marble coasters with a clean gold edge.

Give you coasters a quick sand if there's any rough edges and a top coat if you want, but I left mine as they were. Marble isn't aways shiny anyway, it has a bit of a semi-matte look sometimes, that's the look I was going for anyway and I got it!

I've added these coasters to my Etsy Store if you're interested in buying them. Please feel free to take a look at all the other handmade goodies I have for sale too.

Please also remember to check out my YouTube channel if you get the chance and it would be amazing if you subscribed too 🙏🏻

Thanks again for scrolling through this post today and I hope you have a wonderful week.

Happy crafting x
