Son number three is behind the wheel now and we have fortunately found the perfect vehicle for him! Its a 1986 Chevy S10 pickup that literally barely goes the speed limit. But because he's so cool, he immediately wanted to put tint on the windows and new tires and rims. That's all well and good, but I just couldn't let him toss out the mint condition hub caps! They sat in a corner of my garage for almost a year collecting dust while I deliberated on several things and worked on several others.
I finally decided a few weeks ago what I wanted to make. So I brought them out and cleaned them up. I live kind of in a suburb of a suburb, so it also took me a bit to get my tush in to the city to the hobby store and gather supplies. Then I got down to business.
I had to spray paint the numbers and the clock mechanism and arms metallic silver to match the hubcaps.
Once the numbers were dry. I used E6000 to glue them on the hubcaps. My husband drilled holes in the hubcaps and we put the clock mechanisms in place.
Here's what the first one looks like keeping perfect time! They will be perfect birthday presents for my older sons.
Suggested materials:
  • 30+ year old hubcaps   (Had them)
  • E6000   (Hobby Lobby)
  • Clock mechanisms and numbers   (Hobby Lobby)
