Farmhouse Flower Vase
In the backyard section of my local country antique store, I found an old and worn wooden crate. It had been sitting outside enduring the weather for a long time. I knew I could make something simple and “farmy” with it as a centerpiece for my large dining table.
Chances are you can find something like this too. And turn your trash into treasure!
Keep your eyes open when you are antiquing or hitting the garage sales!
Supplies
- Small wooden crate – This one measures 8” x 8”
- Large canning jar – 32 oz
- Flowers – real or faux
- Card stock paper (*If you have a solid bottom crate, you won't need this.)
- Spanish moss
- Black craft paint
- Foam brush
Instructions
Paint the crate black and allow to dry.
Cut the card stock paper to fit the bottom of the crate. This keeps the Spanish moss from falling through the bottom of the crate, unless your crate has a solid bottom.
Center your canning jar and tuck Spanish moss all around the edges inside the crate all the way to the top.
Fluff it up and allow it to spill out the top a bit.
Add your flowers to the canning jar and you are done! I personally like that you can see the stems through the glass canning jar. But if you don't, you could add Spanish moss inside, too, if you are using faux flowers.
If you are using fresh flowers, add water to the jar.
This is a great piece to make with faux flowers, too. That way you don't have to worry about changing out the flowers. And you can keep it as a centerpiece on your table or countertop.
I made another farmhouse style vase with inexpensive paper napkins. It's also easy to make!
