Faux-aged Wooden Boxes

Bride wanted aged wooden boxes to hold mason jars full of flowers for centerpieces for her vintage style wedding. Her colors were grey and apricot.
The boxes were made from rough pine then distressed with sandpaper, hammer and chisel, knocking down all the hard edges and adding nicks and bruises. They were then stained using Minwax Grey with Jacobean for accenting and detailing. To create more visual texture, I applied the stain in varying layers and waiting times and then removed the stain using a combination of wiping and blotting. A wash of 50/50 apricot paint/water was applied and immediately wiped off. This resulted in a very soft, dusky grey color that made the wood look like it had been aging for generations.
