The old fluorescent lights in the kitchen were not only ugly, but they burned out. So we wanted to get the ceiling to match the "Old Farm Kitchen" appearance that we are striving to accomplish in the kitchen
1st we took down those ugly lights (after cutting the power off)
We built a new frame out of 2x2 lumber (and painted black).
We added a strip of plywood to the center to be able to attach the new lights to and the two inch gap above the plywood was enough room to run the new wiring.
Next step was to add the sheet of tin to the 2x2 frame.
The attaching the new lights.
Once the new lights are up, to finish out the spot, I took down the old hanging baskets and put the plants in tin buckets, tied rope around the handles, and hung them from the ceiling.
Now the ceiling brings us one more step to our "Old Farm Kitchen"

Does the tin set into the frame or on the edge?

I have four two-fluorescent fixtures in a dropped ceiling with plastic grids "hiding" the fixtures. Ugly looking.

    Any suggestions?

Are the new lights putting out enough light to see well in that room? The photo looks dim so I'm wondering if you had to add other lights in there. But really the look is fantastic!
