I've had this roll of sisal in my house for a long time. Aside from the cat liking it, I couldn't figure out anything that I really wanted to use it for...until today. Now that it's starting to cool down and winter is around the corner I started thinking of having some cocoa. I also realized that I don't have any coasters in the house....Sisal coasters popped into my head.

They are fast and super easy to make. Kids could do them too as long as there is supervision with the hot glue gun. They make a cold glue gun too and then you can let the kids run wild with this.

I did something simple for the first one but I am already planning to put some paint on them to make them festive or even a monogram. You can even wrap in other colors of fabric.

I did put a cork base on mine so that it won't scratch any of the wood tables in my house but you may not need that step.

Now to make some cocoa.
This is the extra sisal I had lying around. I cut off a 3 foot piece and started my project. I did cut each of the ends at a 45 degree angle so that they will blend better when being rolled and also at the end of the coaster.
I used a decent amount of hot glue since my sisal is quite thick. If you are using a thinner sisal you could cut down the amount of glue.
I was working with 1-3 inch sections and just putting down the glue and then tightly rolling the sisal into a circle. I would say it was about 15 minutes and I had one coaster finished and ready to put on the base.
here is the finished coaster. You can use it just like this or add the cork base. I do want to add some color to it so I will be doing some designs on them for sure.
Here is the cork I used for the base. I purchased these precut at Michael's. You can buy a roll of it and cut your own...but if someone else will cut it and it's a perfect circle, I'm willing to pay the extra 1.00.
Ready to go...Just need to fill up that mug.
