Are you ready to learn with me How to crackle paint with glue? I have to admit that there is really no need to buy crackle medium when you want to create a crackled paint finish. Elmer's Glue-All that is super inexpensive and can help you turn smaller project into crackle paint beauty. Don't get me wrong I bought crackle products in the past and love them but today is Elmer's glue

  • There are just few things that you need
  • 2 colors of paint. I used Metalic Gold Deco Art and White Chalk paint
  • Elmer's glue
  • Wooden board

In order for our crackle to show nicely I decided to use darker paint as my base coat and the lighter colored paint as the top coat. Of course it is up to you how you like your crackle to show up.

Because I like to have a perfect deep coverage it took me 2 coats of Deco-Art Gold metallic enamel to make me happy

There are a few tips and tricks to this glue method.

  • use a foam brush so you don’t destroy your good paint brushes
  • the heavier you put the glue on the larger your cracks will be. So, if you are aiming for small cracks ease up on the glue a bit.
  • as you apply your glue MAKE SURE NOT TO GO OVER WITH YOUR SPONGE BRUSH TWICE IN THE SAME SPOT or the crackle will NOT HAPPEN

I used a heat gun to help my Elmer's Glue to dry and sort of control this process. Hair dryer will for sure help out. You want glue to have nice crusty layer but still bit tacky

important STEP * IMPORTANT STEP * Important Step Moment of truth..In order for this method to work you must apply the top coat of paint WHILE THE GLUE IS STILL TACKY. Make sure to apply gently top coat of paint in to the glue. It is just supposed to lay on top and not mix with glue.

I didn't want to use my heat gun until all dried completely so I decided to let the rest to dry on its own and think about what can I do to decorate my board with . Lucky for me I had a metal butterfly that I purchased from Dollar Tree while back. I think it will be perfect but I wanted to give a small makeover so it would fit my home decor

Little bit of paint here and there an my Butterly transformed into a pice of decor I love to display with my new set of drawers that I made too ... You can read about that in here How to build Shabby Chic Drawers
