Silk Scarf Wall Hanging

Do you have any scarves that you enjoy so much, you wish you could see them all the time? Well maybe you can if you don't just wear them, but hang them on the wall! Here I show you how to mount a silk scarf on a canvas as wall art.
Here's the final result in a corner of our living room. This was a silk scarf from Talbots and when I bought it, I at first thought I wish it was art for the wall because I love old looking maps.
I wore the scarf to work a few times. But this is all you see.
So I unrolled it and ironed it. It measures about 3' square so I bought a 3' square canvas.
Here's Chaai the Crafty Cat demonstrating how big the canvas is. And he's part Maine Coon so he's a BIG cat! He's 18+ pounds.
I spray painted the edges gold. No one will see the middle so I didn't bother wasting paint there.
Mounting the scarf was so super simple. I just used 4 dressmaker's pins in each corner to mount the scarf. Truly that was it. So it is hanging a bit loose. This helps to avoid wrinkling from the fabric being stretched.

Annie Doherty on Jun 13, 2016This really shows off the scarf and it's beautiful map, thanks for sharing I collect old scarves and have made some beautiful cushions from them only using a backing fabric. Looking at these posts offers so much diverse talent. I also use old retro T towels which I inherited from my Mum as she loved them, so I wanted to keep them close and made lovely cushions from them as they lend themselves to so many treatments. I may now frame on or two so thank you for the inspiration.
