How to Make a Beautiful Spring Artificial Flower Arrangement

Creating an artificial flower arrangement is one of the best and easiest ways to add beautiful Spring touches to your home.

I’m so excited to be joining Pasha with Pasha is Home and 12 other ladies to share some Spring inspiration with you.

If you’re here from Simply 2 Mom’s I’m so glad that you came!

I loved all their ideas for decorating with faux greenery.

It reminds me of the DIY faux tree I made a few weeks ago.

How this artificial flower arrangement reminded me that loving people is much easier than we make it out to be

As I type this, I’m walking among some of the most beautiful florals that are both familiar and foreign to me.

We’re currently in Korea working to finalize the adoption of our daughter and because I have an obsession with flowers, I’m drawn to the blooms here.

It’s been so interesting to find that forsythia, tulips, and geraniums are here the same as they are at home.

Not the exact variety I’m sure, but even across the world in a place that seems like it would be so different, there are so many similarities.

The same beautiful yellow blooms that signal Spring is coming are the same here as they are at home.

This realization is something that brings my heart so much comfort and peace as we begin this journey of forever with our daughter.

Love is not as complicated as we make it out to be

Am I the only one who finds it so easy to overcomplicate love?

I’ve read so many books and articles to make sure that I’m going to be a good mom.

Books on discipline. Attachment. Bonding. Homeschooling. Free-range parenting vs helicopter parenting.

The fear that I’m going to mess up is real, and not just for our adopted daughter, but for all our daughters.

But as I see familiar flowers walking down the street, I’m reminded that the language of love is the same no matter where we are.

(I realize this is not at all what you were expecting when you decided to learn how to create a beautiful artificial flower arrangement, but it’s just something that came pouring out of my heart.)

Maybe, like me, you need to be reminded that loving people isn’t as complicated as it seems.

It doesn’t have to be this big and amazing and absolutely perfect thing.

A simple smile, holding the door, carrying bags, or stopping to help someone find their way.

It can be so easy.

So I encourage you, especially if you’re like me, don’t wait for someone else to be an answered prayer.

Go love on the world around you and become the blessing someone has been looking for.

Okay, now let’s get back to the process of making a flower arrangement.

What type of artificial flowers look real?

Finding artificial flowers that look real can be challenging.

The best advice I can give you is to immerse yourself in the real blooms of the variety you’re looking for.

Features to look for when purchasing artificial flowers

Wired stems and leaves

One way to make an artificial flower arrangement look more realistic is to bend the stems and leaves in a natural way.

Not all flowers have stems that are straight, and some flowers naturally droop.

As I mentioned earlier, the best way to make sure your faux flower arrangement looks real is to research real blooms and then replicate that.

Stems with blooms at different stages

Another great way to add the realistic feeling is to purchase stems that have blooms at different stages.

The pink roses I used in this arrangement have some buds and some in full bloom.

Every time I walk out to the garden, this is something that I see.

They are never blooming at the same exact time.

No fraying in the petals

Finally, the last tip I have for an artificial stem is to ensure there is no fraying on the edges of the petals.

That is one of the reason’s I love the real touch tulips I found on Amazon.

Best places to purchase artificial stems

The places I’ve had the best luck with over the years.

  • Hearth & Hand at Target
  • Hobby Lobby
  • Ikea (be picky, some are better than others)
  • Amazon (depending on the seller)
  • Rustik Market

Ultimately I think the main thing to keep in mind is that they aren’t actually real.

There was a time when I only wanted to have floral arrangements with real flowers.

But as time has passed, I’ve found the beauty and benefits of artificial.

Honestly, I still love using real blooms, and I can’t wait until the gardens are bursting with them again.

But there is certainly a time and place for a beautiful artificial flower arrangement.

How do you decorate with fake flowers?

Someone else might feel different, but I believe there is no wrong way to decorate with flowers.

You can add them to a vase, a basket, a crate, a mason jar, or even a pumpkin!

You can press them, hang them, and add them to a door wreath or a garland.

The options are endless.

Flowers, no matter how you display them, bring life and beauty wherever they go.

How do you make an arrangement with artificial flowers?

Artificial Flower Arrangement | Supplies

  • Vessel
  • Tape (I used floral, but scotch tape is nice because it is clear)
  • Greenery
  • Floral stems
  • Berry stems (Or another stem that adds different shapes)

Artificial Flower Arrangement | Instructions

Step 1.

The first thing to do when starting your artificial floral arrangements is select the vessel.

For this arrangement I decided to use a while pitcher that I have.

In the thrifty Spring home accessories post I shared a couple of weeks ago, I mentioned a pitcher can have a nice Spring feeling, so this is why I decided to use it.

Once you know what vessel you’re going to use, add tape across the top to form a grid.

It is such a genius way to support the stems and keep them in the proper place.

Step 2.

Once the tape grid has been created you can begin adding the greenery stems around the outer edge of the vessel.

This is when you will need to decide on the purpose of this particular floral arrangement.

Will it be seen from all angles or will is be up against a wall?

After you know the purpose you will need to decide on the shape.

Some floral arrangements are pretty symmetrical, while others may get tall on one side and drop lower on the other.

For this arrangement I decided to keep it simple and casual.

So I made it symmetrical.

Step 3.

After the greenery is added around the outside edge of the vessel, you can add the biggest blooms you’re planning on using.

Again do this with the end goal in mind to ensure you are creating the balance you’re going for.

Like I do with most of my decorating, I like to work with odd numbers.

Even in a flower arrangement the end almost always feels more visually balanced with odd numbers.

*Fun side note*

Apparently, the human brain likes odd numbers (The rule of three’s) because there is a perfect middle with odd numbers.

I heard this once and it gave me a better understanding of the rule of three’s and trying to create balance while decorating.

Step 4.

Next, you can begin adding the smaller blooms in and around the larger blooms.

This is when you may decide to change a few things to make sure the floral arrangement looks “just right”.

Step 5.

Finally, after you have added all the blooms you can go back through and add a few greenery stems among the flowers.

This is also when a berry stem or something a little unexpected can add more visual interest display.

Step 6.

Once all of the pieces of the floral arrangement are in the vessel you can begin “fluffing” it.

Pushing and pulling on certain stems to create the balance you’re going for.

Well that’s all I have for you.

Such an easy way to add Spring touches to your home.
