How to Make a Cake Stand From ThriftStore Finds
I’ve seen many different DIY cake stand ideas on Pinterest but this is actually the first time that I ever made one! What have I been waiting for? I’ve had this candle stick for YEARS and have used it in many holiday decor vignettes in my home and markets. I bought it at an estate sale for $1.00. The cheese dome I found just recently at my favorite thrift store. It was $1.99 for the top and bottom. The wood base has a few scratch marks on it and there was just a tiny chip off one edge of the dome.
I started by cleaning all three pieces with some all purpose cleaning spray and an old wash cloth. They were pretty gross!
Then I removed the feet off the bottom of the wood base, turned it upside down, and glued the candlestick to the center. I measured just to make sure I had it directly in the middle.

I let the wood glue dry overnight before painting two coats of the creamy chalk type paint. I used two coats of paint, let it dry completely, and sanded with 320-grit sandpaper. To finish off, I covered with a light coat of matte varnish.
Using a cake (or cookie) stand makes even simple storebought cookies look more elegant, don’t you think?
