How to Make a Pleated Bedskirt

I just posted a quilt I made and next on my to do list was to make a bedskirt, they're good because they conceal the hiding places! For this I used an aqua color curtain panel and an old bedsheet. No worries on the color of the sheet because it won't be seen since your mattress will completely cover it.
First, I removed the mattress and laid the sheet over the foundation. Next, I traced along the foundation outline all along the edge as exact as I could.
The curtain panel I used was about 84" in length by 64" wide, I was able to get four lengths of fabric to work with. These 4 pieces were sewn together to become one long piece and hemmed. * Note for Hemming: You'll need to have it wide enough to reach from the edge of the foundation top down to the floor.
Back to the sheet that will hold the skirt in place atop the foundation. I traced as accurately as I could along the edge. This will become your cutting line to get the foundation custom template.
Start at the pillow end of the foundation work your way all around pinning the skirt to the sheet until you get back up to the opposite pillow end. You'll pin along 3 sides, starting at one end and working to the other end allows you to cut off excess at the other end if need be to finish it.
I didnt go with the ruffle look I added pleats which are simply a few folds of fabric that allow for expansion as the skirts hangs towards the floor.

Once everything was pinned, flip inside out and sew along the inside edges to attach the skirt to the sheet using a 1/4 " seam. I used the zig zagg stitch along the raw edge afterwards as well to prevent unravelling.
Once the mattress was placed back on, sheets put on and my new quilt heres how it looked. Total cost was just my time since the sheet and curtain were recycled which was good because I went over budget with the quilt fabric! 😀
