Hi Hometalk friends! Today, I have a very quick and easy makeover tutorial that I hope you enjoy. I will be sharing how I painted my glass vases with a textured terra cotta finish inspired by Pottery Barn Decor.

If you have old vases sitting around your home, this is a GREAT way to update them by giving them an aged patina look!

Here's what I started with. These are the inexpensive vases that I've been collecting over the years.

To clean off the glass vases, I washed them off using vinegar and water first.

After cleaning, I primed the glass vases.

The key to painting on glass is not only it is clean and free from dirt and grease but also a very good primer. I chose a bonding primer that really adheres to slick surfaces.

To give the vases a textured finish, I mixed together approximately one cup of white chalk mineral paint with one and a half cups of baking soda until the consistency is as thick as heavy buttercream icing.

I used mixed paint and baking soda as the base coat for the glass vases.

I dabbed light gray chalk paint in random spots and added more depth by also dabbing a much darker gray. This gives the vases an old patina look.

And for the next part, you won't believe what item I used for it to give it a beautiful brownish-orange color. I used cinnamon and sprinkled it in some areas. It really smells good!

After I sprinkled the cinnamon, I rubbed the cinnamon. I have some areas that I overdid and to make the cinnamon spots lighter, I brushed them off with a dry paintbrush.

And here is the finished look! Beautiful time-worn look and a gorgeous vase with character! Perfect for staging and home decor.

Here's another look at its before and after. I hope it inspired you to try this project!

I sooo love this idea. I think all women have a lil collection of vases like yours. How long after applying the chalk mix did you wait before applying the cinnamon?

I am definitely going to do this! Was the paint wet when you sprinkled the cinnamon?
