Most little girls like glitter glue, I'm sure, but my little granddaughters didn't like gluing papers together with it on projects, because they couldn't see the glitter. I suggested that we make embellishments with glitter glue that the girls could move around. Grandmommy rocks!

Round 1: wax paper
We got the simple materials together. Elmer's Gel Glitter Glue in pink and purple and 1 1/2 feet of wax paper each was all we needed. They laid the paper out and started drawing designs and letters. We had some difficulty adjusting the stream of glue, so I adjusted the nozzles and removed the enclosed tiny paintbrushes and did the first big squeeze. After that, the creating kept the girls busy for an hour!

Sticky stickers--too sticky.
I explained about curing, or letting the glue dry long enough to form a single unit. After a whole, long hour, the girls decided the glue was cured!
unfortunately, the wax on the paper must have melded with the glue, because the glue became one with the wax paper. Try as they might, the girls could only get small pieces of their designs off the paper. They were so proud of those, though, and tried them out on mirrors, construction paper, and the kitchen table where we worked. Time for them to go home.

Round 2: aluminum foil
At their next visit, the granddaughters were ready to try making their glitter glue creations on aluminum foil. Each girl did her own drawings and letters. And they were very proud. They set an electric fan to dry the glue better, they said.
and with the aluminum foil, the girls had a new problem. The glitter glue reflected off the foil and the girls couldn't tell which was foil or glue. They peeled a few larger pieces off, and some small ones, too. And they were eager to put their embellishments to use.

I have a wonderful video clip of the elder girl explaining each item. But I don't know how to make it a Vimeo or send it to YouTube. But the above shape, bound on each side with another shape, shows her thought processes. She said this is a dog facing right, sniffing at the cookies in the basket left on the ground, but who has just turned from the left where several flowers were blooming, and the dog sniffed those first.

Art print with embellishments.
This is the older girl's embellishment of an art print of herself. Those are clouds in the sky shading the blooming flowers below. The decorations didn't last long--there were too many more surfaces that need embellishing In Grandmommy's house.

Glitter glue embellishment
Round 2 1/2. A few days later, the girls were learning drybrushing. The older girl painted this 1" office clip and suddenly got further inspired. She found an oval blob made a previous time and used the glitter glue to glue on the oval, then added a wing on each side. Then she presented me with a pink clip with a pink bee. Wonderful gift.
Notes: the glitter glue was $2.97 for each bottle. There are many types and brands other than Elmer's, most less expensive, But this was handy. Btw, the day after our last visit, the roll of parchment paper I had ordered from Walmart.com was delivered, so I'm ready for another session. I had a blast.
