Lantern Makeover
Lanterns are great accessories for anytime of the year, inside or out of the house. I was getting tired of my outdated ones and decided to give them a makeover so they'd look better outside.
I had these pretty lanterns in a silver color. They looked great inside and for a while I dressed them for every season.
However, after a while, I ran out of room for them inside and I was bored with the color. So I decided to move them outside and spray paint them to match my patio set.
I removed the glass panes so they wouldn't get paint all over them. It was easy since they just slid out. Then I placed them somewhere safe so they wouldn't break.
This is also a great time to wash the glass. I used vinegar and water.
If your glass panes won't budge, don't force them. Just cover the glass with blue painter's tape and spray.
You can scrape away any paint on the glass once it's dry.
I sprayed the entire surface of each lantern twice to give it a solid and uniform color. I used a spray paint specifically made for metal so it would adhere well.
Make sure to wear protective gear and a well ventilated area when painting.
When they were dry, I simply slipped the glass back in place and dropped a battery operated candle inside.
Much better!
