Lattice Kitchen Country Decor

This was a theme used in my prior home and we copied it in our new home. I love the country!

I had chosen resin lattice initially and it worked superbly, but it was a little dirty from being in storage. Out came the scrub brush and hose and it cleaned up easily. The greenery got the same treatment.

I don’t to ladders, but Jeff does, sweet guy.  He wove the greens in and out, doing a better, more intricate job than I had done in the other home.

As you can see, the lattice sits atop the cupboards over the sink. It does not require any screws or tacks, so when we do our spring cleaning, it can all be lifted down and washed off.  Very easy to take care of, but really brings in a lot of the outside for our country-themed kitchen, don’t you think?

We spent $15 on additional greens, otherwise we had all the materials already.

My name is Romy and I write from Switzerland. I loved all my life this kind of decoration, but hat to bind myself back because my husband didn't. Now I am 78 and would like to realize this so dear project. But I must ask the silliest question: the greens and flowers are not natural, hein? I broke already three times my feet and now I dont want to loose another year by watering the lattice. Thanks for sharing this lovely decoration.
    • Val Val on Mar 23, 2017
it's fake flowers so no watering or worrying.
    • Elaine Toole Elaine Toole on Mar 23, 2017
No, the greens are not live plants. In the U.S. we can buy artificial greenery that only requires an ocassional washing.
    • Debbie Spilsbury Debbie Spilsbury on Mar 23, 2017
You are so sweet, Romy, and you can do this! Fake plants are available online from many stores, too!
    • Mary Ann Goldberg Mary Ann Goldberg on Apr 07, 2017
Romy, thank you. Yes, they are fake and the only care is washing them. We do it with our spring cleaning - 1x a year. I hope it works for you to do it - they are really beautiful but simple.

love your colors in your home. what is the color of the paint (and brand)? also, did you paint your cabinets or were they white when they went up? if painted, what did you use? very cute idea as well w the trellis! thanks simone

Thank you, Sam. The whole house is sponged yellow and white - we bought it this way. Sorry, I don't know the brands or colors. We're just finishing up painting the laundry room - and will do the others slow but sure. I'll have a laundry reveal shortly. The same goes for the cabinets - they were already here. I love them - part of the reason we liked the house so much. They are factory finished, not painted.

I really want white cabinets, but I haven't reached that point yet. My cabinets are like yours, with tons of space up to the ceiling, but with angles of several degrees. I like the trellis because it fills in lots of space without my having to install cabinets to the ceiling, with no safe way to use the cabinets. If I do get the trellis up there, I'll use my long handled duster and a sponge mop with a damp sock over it instead of taking the trellis down. Best wishes 😇

what is the name of the yellow you used to paint your kitchen (and brand) also , did you paint your cabinets , if yes, what did you use. nice trellis idea too! thanks

    • Sam Sam on Mar 23, 2017
I don't think its an ochre... ochre is darker. this looks light and airy.

by the way the paint store ,walmart or any store that sells paint has a spectrometer and it reads the pixels and voila this is how they custom mix of course depends on your computer or printer but you'll only waste a couple dollars as upposed to a lot on a gallon if it doesn't !
    • Sandra Allen Sandra Allen on Mar 23, 2017
Sorry Jean C but they are faux flowers and greenery. She even said they spent money on the "greenery" and if you think about it, real flowers would die and require changing every so often. Hope that helps Myra!

Some people just don't read what is written and don't look at the pictures, thereby asking nonsensical questions.

It's good she show interest an likes the idea !

Ladies, let's play nice. Yes, Myra, they are faux florals.
  • Kim Bailey Michon Kim Bailey Michon on Mar 23, 2017
Do you think battery operated lights would work on the trellis? The location being so high up might be a issue to turn it on and off but, I think it would give it a little punch. Thanks for sharing its a great idea. I might try my hand at one with wine bottle decor grapes etc that is the theme of my kitchen.

It seems to me that cleaning this would be a big problem. What are your idea"s?
    • June 'Ackerman' Louttit June 'Ackerman' Louttit on Mar 24, 2017
I would say take it outside and spray it off with the water hose.
    • Cud15744056 Cud15744056 on Mar 24, 2017
Buy painted it will be so easy to clean ! Use it outside after and buy a fresh one for the house. I have big pieces of pottery etc. over mine so I use plastic wrap to cover them (turkey platter etc) you can't even tell it is on them. Oops I strayed off the subject again. Sorry 😜

They also sell white plastic lattice, last forever.
    • Lynn Clugston Lynn Clugston on Mar 25, 2017
They have the lattice in several colors in plastic, white, green. and brown that I remember
    • Mary Ann Goldberg Mary Ann Goldberg on Apr 07, 2017
The lattice was purchased this color, and yes, they have other colors, too. The whole thing comes down at once, and taken outside. It's taken apart and all washed off. I don't mind - I sit on the deck and get wet and enjoy the weather. This year I'll assemble it before hanging so hubby doesn't have to spend so much time doing it. But yes, you could just give it a hose bath and do it that way, too.

Think she wanted the country look, as is...Not a big deal to clean things...I think it is adorable....enjoy!!!

I used assorted baskets and greenery above my cabinets for years, with a few bottles and teapots thrown in. Loved it. Feather duster and some Lysol spray occasionally. If they got really dusty I tossed them in the dryer on cool and threw them back up.

Love lattice have decorated with the white. Great ideas!

    • Hohn Hohn on Nov 26, 2018

Washing up should not be a problem. If you clean the top of the cupboards regularly you just take a few extra mins to clean up the lattice. That way there is no build up. I like it.

What color is your kitchen? I have something similar where kitchen and living are same wall so both rooms have to be the same color thanks. Cute idea
    • Mary Ann Goldberg Mary Ann Goldberg on Apr 07, 2017
Thank you, Glorietta! The whole house is sponged yellow and white, so the colors you're seeing are everywhere. We'll be painting eventually - started on the laundry room this year. I'll be showing a post about that soon - almost done.

Like this idea, but wonder how tall the lattice is? I guess I could go to Lowe's to find out. The reason I wonder is because the height from the top of my cabinets to the ceiling is smaller than in most houses. I only have 7 foot ceilings vs. the traditional 8 so this might not work if he height of the lattice is taller than top of my cabinets to the ceiling. P.S. My kitchen walls are about the same color as this and I love it.
    • Martha O'Brian Martha O'Brian on May 23, 2017
Measure what you need then hit the store. Chances are if they dont have the size you need, you might get them to cut it for you. Good luck!
    • Deidri Bryan Deidri Bryan on Jul 02, 2017
A cheap hacksaw easily cuts through plastic lattice too.

I made one simulator to this for a friend's wedding bridal table backdrop with grapes and westeria plants. Turned out so nice they hung as a wall decoration in their kitchen. He took her to a vineyard where he ask her to marry him. This one was on 4 x 8 but you can personalize it for you.

    • Sue Sue on Sep 05, 2018

You can have the pro at Lowes cut it any size you want .

    • Diane Diane on May 11, 2019

At the store you can have the length cut too what you like
