Lighten up a Dark Hallway With a "new" Window

We built a box frame to fit our "window" — painted it white.
We used an old wooden storm window that had eight glass sections — painted the wood white.

Sprayed the back side of the glass with Rust-Oleum Frosted Glass spray paint. Spray it once. If you go over it with another coat it will make weird design when the lights are on. Which I did and had to scrape it off with a razor blade and sprayed it again. Lesson learned.

Framed out the box frame with left over baseboard trim for a finish look.

Create two cleats — one for the wall and screwed into the wall (find a stud if you can or use anchors). Make sure it is level.

Attach the second cleat to the box frame, making sure it is centered and level.

I purchased led strip lights on a roll so there would be a continuous strip, it came with a remote control. I can adjust the brightness and even change the color.

We drilled a small hole in the front of finished frame to insert the "light sensor" for the remote control.

Hung a lace valance to finish the look off.

We love this new window. We use it as a night light.

Guests actually think we put a window in at the end of the hallway.
