Make Fun and Easy Tile Coasters With Sharpies!

Easy
So easy kids can do it! They will love it too! You only need three things! $0.16 ceramic tiles, sharpie markers, and rubbing alcohol!
This is a fun and easy project for any skill level!
All you need are 4x4 ceramic tiles (I buy mine at Lowes for $0.16 each!) Sharpie permanent markers, and rubbing alcohol! I used felt pieces for coaster backing, but you can also use cork, or anything else you'd like to back them!
Take the sharpies, and draw on the coasters. Any shapes, any designs. Abstract, or detailed!
Next take the rubbing alcohol and drip it on. Spray it, shake it, drop it. The more you put on, the more the ink will blur. Just a little sprayed with a brush only spreads the image a little.
After the alcohol dries, I like to do it a second time. Draw on the tiles more, and repeat with the alcohol until you get the desired look!
Once they are dry, you can either leave them as is, or add more details with the marker. If you hate them, you can add some alcohol again, and wipe the whole thing off! I sealed these with a polyurethane spray. They will need some kind of sealant to keep the marker ink from rubbing off. Mod Podge works, but doesn't hold up well if you intend to use as a coaster, the water condensation wears it down after awhile. That's why I use the poly spray, it works wonderfully!

Do you need to clean the tile first before using the markers?

Since the tile is ceramic; it does not absorb the condensation from a cold drink. Is that correct?
