Every month I participate in a group blog hop and the criteria is to take a pin we have pinned and duplicate it. I really liked the pins that showed painted books so that was my project. Except I ended up putting my spin on it.
I do love books and felt anxious about this project.  But I rummaged through my books and found some that were worn and others that I would never read.  And the best part is the books weren’t damaged, I just painted the covers.
I already had white paint mixed with Poppie’s Furniture Paint Powder, which gives the piece a chalk-like finish.  I started painting.  Now the pin I was duplicating showed book covers that had a design so they were painted and sanded to show the design.  Mine are very plain.  That’s OK I have a plan.
To give make the books pretty I decided to use a stencil and fill in the design with a gold paint pen.  With another book, I painted it.  Then I used a crackle medium, painted over it and then used gold wax to fill in the cracks.
Some books were sanded lightly.  All of them were waxed.  I just played around and had fun with it.  Give it a try and you will be hooked.  And no books will be harmed in the making of this project.
