Got a whole mess of river rocks and you don’t know what to do with them? Or maybe your papers get tossed all over and you don’t want to waste a bunch of money on a paper weight? Maybe you have a pet rock and you want to make him cute?

Say no more!

I have a cute and affordable way to stop your papers from flying about on your desks and to reuse rocks.
All you need is a toothpick, nail polish, a disposable bowl fill with water, river rocks (or regular rocks), and white paint.
Begin by giving your rock a blank slate by painting it white with regular acrylic paint, and don’t worry if you can’t get in all the nooks and crannies.

Now, drop several colors of nail polish on each other, or in the center once it disperses. You have to do this quickly before it solidifies!
Before dropping your rock in, drag your toothpick right through the center of the nail polish to create a pattern of color.
Then, drop your rock right in the center (once it is dry of course) and let it sit in there for a second or two.
Take out your rock, and let it sit and dry for a couple of minutes. It surprisingly dries quick!
VOILA!

Once you pull it out, the nail polish swirled and combined to make a marbled effect on the surface of the rock.  Your desk is going to look lively with this new addition holding your important papers in place or you will have the prettiest pet rock on the block!

Try it with terra cotta flower pots. Just beautiful!

I've seen a similar nail police "marbled" effect used elsewhere, not rocks but I forget what... and it occurs to me that after rock dries, could paint over it with clear glossy paints to give it that really shiny glossy look - just a way to switch up the multi-textural effect. This is a darling idea that you have, especially since i have some nail polishes that I don't really like on my nails but would be awesome in a marbled effect on rocks or something else...
