I’ve been in the process of building a dollhouse (1:12 scale) and have been trying to make as many miniature items as I can for it. This little basket I made was super easy & very cheap to make!
For this basket I used part of a cardboard egg carton. I cut out one of the egg inserts and then just cut the top of it until I was happy with the height/size of the basket.
Once I had the basket cut to size I then put glue on the inside.
I used liquid nail glue for this which was defiantly not needed but it was the only glue I had in the house. Any craft glue would have worked fine.
Next, I found some string from my craft supplies and started sticking it to the glue, starting from the centre of the inside of the basket and working around in a circle.
Once I had glued string to the inside of the basket I then put glue on the outside and continued wrapped the string around it. I used the end of a paint brush to push the string into the glue to prevent a sticky mess and getting glue all over my hands.
When I had finished wrapping it in string I left it for a few hours to dry.
Once the glue had dried I then mixed up some white paint with some water (roughly 60% paint to 40% water) and I painted the basket. The reason I added water was to help give it that “white wash” look.
I then left that to dry for a few hours and then it was ready to use in the dollhouse! 👌🏻
