Modern Clamp and Concrete Book Holder

A few weeks ago I (Steph) was watching a TV show on Netflix and in the background of a scene I saw a neat book holder made out of a c-clamp and live edge wood. I couldn't get a good picture of it, because it was just in the background, but hat cool design stuck with me. I told mom my idea and that I wanted to make one! The only problem was, how would we cut an opening for the clamp in a piece of wood? I thought up some ideas, but I realized an even easier way would be to cast the clamp in concrete! Seemed like a very easy DIY version so I went to making.
You can find all size c-clamps at The Home Depot.

Decide the size you want your concrete base. Measure the height for the sides to the clamp. Use a saw to cut the melamine to size. Hot glue the sides to the base.
Mix the concrete or cement according to the package. We used Rapid Set cement that sets in 1 hour.
Put the c-clamp in pace and pour in the cement.
Let it set for one hour, then pull the sides off.

This project was as easy as I imagined and it turned out just as I thought! I like that this idea can be adapted to different size clamps, new or vintage, and you can make the concrete/ cement different sizes and even different colors. I like the smaller concrete base, as it almost looks like the books are floating with just the clamp on top.

This would look great inside with your favorite book or even in a workshop for tool manuals. Would you make this project? What books would you display? Let us know in the comments below!
