My "canvas replacement" for my paintings.

I got to a point that it was just too expensive to buy canvas every time I wanted to do a painting. (which is very often) So I came up with an idea. The apartment I live in does not allow hanging heavy items on the walls and I like BIG paintings! Here was what I came up with: On a whim I went to the lumber yard and purchased 1/2" 4X8 Styrofoam and had the guy cut it into 2- 4X4's. I base coat with standard flat wall paint and do my paintings over that. The cost is $7.29 for the full sized sheet and the paintings weigh about 8 ounces each! I put them up with a hot glue gun and they stay until I remove them with no damage.
I painted this picture in about 1 hour from start to finish. The size is 4X4 ft.

Check out your local recycling centers and see if the have coroplast yard sale signs in different sizes. Sometimes Realtors use coroplast, in big sizes, and change them out if they become a new company, or start looking bad, but they would be good for what you want, since you paint them white, anyway. Someone just dropped off about a thousand unused coroplast boards at our recycle center. Great dry erase boards, too, fyi.
