Several years ago, while vacationing in Key West, I suffered a massive stroke. The emergency room doctor told my husband that I would not live through the night. The doctor never spoke directly to me, however, I heard every word that was said. I was relegated to a corner of the emergency room and left to let nature take its gruesome course. The next morning I was afraid to open my eyes after all the doctor said that I would never wake. When the doctor made his rounds and found me still on this side of heaven, he told my husband that I would be totally bedridden for the rest of my life - wrong again. After much physical therapy, prayers, and encouragement, I progressed from learning to talk, to sitting without falling over, to walking with a cane. Today, with great determination, I taught myself to drive again, walk unassisted, prepare meals, and yes, crafting. Initially, since I only had the use of one hand, there were a number of failures. However, I was persistent in finding something that I could. I started out with wood burning, which I still enjoy greatly, I also have a beautiful patio flower garden, do rock painting. (I stabilize the rocks by pressing them into modeling clay) and several decoupage pieces. I am also writing my memoirs (A Look Back Down that Dusty Road) and have had a piece published. I will have a poem published in August. I never keep my works but I share them with others.
1. The yellow wreath is made from shower mesh scrunchies that I found at the Dollar Tree. The center string has been cut and the sleeve-like mesh is fed onto a styrofoam wreath maker that has been cut so that the mesh can be fed onto it.
2. The hydrangea wreath is made from silk hydrangeas that I found on sale. Most of the stems were removed except about 4 inches needed to secure the flower into the foam wreath maker
3. The Sunflower wreath is made from artificial sunflowers secured into a grapevine form. I use a bow maker for the finishing touch.
4. The white fluffy wreath is made from coffee basket filters. I decided to let them remain white because I did not want to risk any dye rubbing off. I folded about two-hundred filters into quarters in preparation for putting the wreath together. I embellished it with butterflies and flowers using tacky glue.
5. Finally, the piano wreath is made from clothes pins that were spray painted black and white and arranged in order of the keys on a piano. Then music noted were added and a lovely bow was the finishing touch.

I hope you enjoy. Remember, "Falling down is an accident; staying down is a choice."
