Neck Tie Wreath

I’ve had a bag full of ties for years. Somehow I ended up with them and I can’t even tell you how. About 6-months ago I was doing some cleaning and purging and came across them AGAIN. This makes about the 100th time I’ve pulled them out. The conversation in my head went like this….
Sigh, here are these ties again.
What am I going to do with them?
……Cricket Noises………
Ok, you haven’t used them in over 10 years so just get rid of them.
No, I might use them.
You haven’t used them in over 10 years.
Ok, to the donation pile they go.
So I hauled them off and donated them.
Fast Forward 6 months, when Revyn was coming up with projects for county fair. She said she had seen something made with neckties and she wanted to try to make a wreath with them. Wonk, Wonk….Wonk. I thought, dang it! I just hauled off an entire sack 6-months ago. So we decided to call family members and see if they had any they weren’t using and if they would be willing to let us have them. Good call on our part because we ended up with lots of them.

So Revyn and I went through them and picked out the ones we liked together. It was fun trying to pick some from each person; my dad, G’s dad, my uncle, and my cousin. Once we had the colors picked out, we sat there and tried to figure out how we were going to turn all these ties into a wreath.
Let me take you through how she put this together. I’ll leave out the thinking process and just take you to what works. Because there was a lot of trial and error before actual crafting began.

You will need a white styrofoam wreath from your favorite craft store.

Figure out how far you want the ties to hang over by wrapping it around your styrofoam wreath form. Now cut the tie leaving enough to completely wrap around the wreath. Cut all your ties this length.
Wrap the first tie around and only glue it down the middle only.
Click on the link below for the full tutorial and details. I love how it turned out and the memories it carries with it.

This is adorable. I may have to raid my husband's ties again. I did a footstool with a lot of his ties when he retired, you can find the priject here in Hometalk under my projects,
