New Look for Old Sconces

I'd been looking for old sconces with turn-of-the-century charm but small enough to fit in my tiny bathroom when I found these at a yard sale for $20. Aren't they gorgeous?
They needed some work but they captured my heart, especially the delicate profile of a woman in the center.
PLAN B. Things don't always work out the way you think they're going to. The sconces had been badly broken, probably dropped, and had been soldered back together. This effectively closed off the channels for rewiring.
So, we squeezed JB Weld into the wobbly joints. When this epoxy is dry, it's rock solid -- the next best thing to actual welding. And Zip Strip tided up paint splatters.
Once they were put back together, we mounted them on the fireplace wall in the living room and put battery-operated candles in them.
Not quite what we had pictured, but I love the final result.
Suggested materials:
  • JB Weld   (Home Depot)
  • Zip Strip   (Home Depot)

The look great! The first four photos, they look very shiny. The fifth photo they look antiqued. Did you do something to them?! I like the look!

Hi William, You're right! When we removed the paint splatters with Zip Strip it made the finish shiny. We used matte medium to tone down the shine. Thanks.
