No Sew Upcycled Denim Coasters

I love to repurpose and upcycle my old jeans into things around my home and have made loads of things. Not only that I love to use all the parts of a pair of jeans and not all my projects require sewing either, like my very popular denim waistband rug.

For my latest denim upcycle I have used the seams and hems from a pair of jeans.

For this project, you will need the double-stitched seams in a pair of jeans. These normally run up the inside leg. Sometimes there is a seam across the seat of the jeans between the pockets and waistband. Hems will work as well. Cut the seams as close to the stitching as possible.

If you can use the seams from jeans of different shades of indigo even better.

I pinned the seams to a corkboard and then wove them.

This woven mat was glued to a small cork round.

The excess bits of denim was cut away using scissors.

One last seam was used to neaten up the edge of the coasters. There are more photos and details on the blog link at the end.

These coasters would make a lovely handmade gift for Father's Day. I have recently made some cool denim key fobs too, that I also think would be a cool gift idea.

Doesn’t this remind you of the potholders we used to make when we were kids at the playground? But this is a great idea! And they could be square if you used a different material for the base!
