I pulled one of my old wreaths out of the garage. I found that my soft white dove ($1 bought from Family Dollar ten years ago) was faded and dirty looking. I apologized to the dove, but I knew what I wanted to do with her for this year.

Sweet Dove of Peace
This sweet dove was pure white the last time i saw her, at least four years ago. The real feathers were still somewhat white, but the rest looked yellowish and dirty.
She flew into pieces
The two wings were stuck in the sides of the dove. I tried to paint the feathers, but they just clumped. The original glue was brittle and broke. I paid $1 at Dollar Tree for the gold and cottony angel wings.
Dove is a little chicken.
My poor little dove is so bare without her wings, but I wanted her to be kind of Victorian looking with a pink body. I used Apple Barrel pink latex paint. I painted the whole body pink, except for the pin feathers under the rear feathers. It took two full coats, but I followed what would be the natural direction of the chest and back feathers and I let a little white show through to add dimension.
Winged beauty reborn
I slid the new wings on. The tail feathers fit between the hard plastic gold wings. I tried the wings in several positions until I liked how they sat.
In all her glory
My dove reminds me of Zha Zha Gabor in a pink evening dress and a lovely white fur and gold evening coat. She will have a special place this holiday season.
