Do you have some old pieces that need new life but not sure how to give them a little refresh? Then, check this out. It is so amazing how just a little paint can easily transform a piece and give it an entirely different look. Plus, it is super simple and fun to do as well!

Here is what it all looked like before!
Sand The Wooden Tray and Jewelry Box

You can really use whatever wooden piece you have on hand, doesn't have to be a tray and jewelry box like I have here. But whatever you have that you want to refresh with some paint, be sure to give it a good sanding down with a piece of sandpaper first!

Prime The Pieces

After you sand the pieces, now you need to prime them in order for the paint to adhere better. The exact primer I used is pictured above. It worked really well and I was very impressed with it.

Paint the Pieces

Now here is the fun part, painting the pieces! I used Behr Ultra Scuff Defense in Deep Base as well as some leftover Fusion Mineral Paint I had in the garage. I coated the tray in the Deep Base color first, but then I wanted it to appear more distressed so I dry brushed it with Sacred Sage which is a Fusion Mineral Color. Before you dry brush, be sure the piece is completely dried first. I let mine dry overnight before dry brushing it.

To dry brush, simply dip your paintbrush a little into the paint and then wipe it back and forth excessively on a scrap piece of paper or paper towel until there is almost no paint left on the brush. Then lightly brush it back and forth on your piece to create an old or distressed look. Super easy and simple!

Here is a close up of the jewelry box. I did not dry brush this piece. I just wanted it to be simple because I am using it over at our camper. It's the perfect little piece to store some jewelry pieces I want to keep over there.

Such a cute little jewelry box!

I decided to use my wooden tray to display all my coffee syrups for my coffee bar. You can see it displayed at the bottom of the table pictured above. I am very happy with how all these pieces turned out and it is just so amazing what a little paint can do to a simple piece like a wooden tray and a jewelry box!
