Paperclip Bookmark
A simple, 20 minute project using only a paper clip and some wool, this bookmark can be made in any colour you want. My older 2 children often have more than one book on the go at a time and they're always misplacing their bookmarks. So having these that I can make quickly will save stress at bedtime.
This is all you'll need for this super simple project. Just some wool (doesn't have to be wool, you could use embroidery silk or other fine string) and a paperclip.
First, take your paperclip and bend it to create this heart shape as shown here.
Next, tie your wool securely to the middle point of the heart, between the 2 arches, as shown.
Thread your wool downwards through the space in the right hand arch, as shown.
Create a knot and pull it tight
Repeat this step so the knots wrap around the heart shape. Make sure that when you get to the extra 'arch' at the bottom, that you bring the wool back up through the space so that the knots don't wrap around that arch as well. If this happens it will spoil the look of the heart and also stop the bookmark from working as intended.
This is another picture explaining the step above, in the hope of it being as clear as possible.
When the entire heart is covered, tie a tight knot to secure the wool in place.
Trim the excess wool as short as possible.
There you have it! A simple bookmark, easily replicable in whatever colour you want. To use you simply slip the heart over the page as shown, like you would with a regular paper clip.

I've made the heart paperclips for years. I've painted mine sometimes, but I had never thought about putting wool yarn on them! How cute!
