Picture Frame Lantern

Christmas is coming! I made this easy picture frame lantern for my candles.

This was a very inexpencive DIY project. Here is what you'll need:

  1. 4 identical picture frames
  2. Chalk paint
  3. Antiquing wax
  4. Hot glue gun
  5. Scrap wood

I bought these cheap picture frames and since I didn't like the colour, I decided to paint them. These are 5x7, but you can use whatever size you want.

First, I took out all the glass.

Then mixed in some white chalk paint, and painted on two coats.

I wanted a nice drifted wood tone finish, so I painted antiquing wax over the white. After it dried, I gave it a light sanding and a light drybrushing with the same white chalkpaint.

The next step was to put back the glass. I hot glued it back on, and then hot glued the frames together, to get a box shape.

The final touch was to measure and cut the scrap wood for the base and the top. I cut it to the same size, did the same paiting steps as on the frames. And after painting, glued the box on the base.

The top should stay removeable, so you can place the candles inside.

And Voila! 😊

Easy! 😊
