Preserved Cardboard Beer Coasters

We love trying out new beers at our local beer festival and always pick up a cardboard coaster from the craft breweries we liked. Most of the coasters feature cool designs, but I hate to use them in case they get ruined. I wanted to find a way to make them more permanent and durable for everyday use!

Collect up your favourite cardboard coasters

Lay them out on a sheet of thin cork material and glue them in place using contact cement.

Once the glue is completely dry carefully cut around the coaster using a sharp knife. If you want you can use a permanent marker or paint to cover the sides of the coasters and cork.

brush a thin layer of mod podge on the top and sides of the coasters to protect them from moisture.

I find the more coats you do, the less the brush marks show, so I did 5 coats total on my coasters. Essentially, keep going until you’re happy (or no longer want to mod podge).

To prevent them from sticking I placed the wet coasters on top of drinking glasses to dry.

Once the mod podge is compeltely dry your coasters are ready to enjoy. These also make a great gift for beer lovers!

This is great idea - I wish I had thought about and known this sooner because I had some cool ones f try on traveling and don’t know where they are and now we are in Covid. So I will be ready as I begin to collect more.
