30 year old polished chrome strip lighting/exposed globes redo?

I want to create some type of "cover"/"valance" to get rid of stark look this style lighting gives. It has to allow some light through...any ideas? There are plenty of bulbs so reducing the light is okay.

I upcycled one of those in a bathroom. It was a bit of work, but not complicated. 1. Build a "shadow box" deep enough to cover the sides and leave room for the bulbs; 2. Trim with crown molding; 3. Insert opaque plastic in front; 4. Insert bulbs and slide the box over the fixture. Note: Mine seemed secure, but just to be safe I drilled a hole through shadow box and fixture and put in an easily removable peg. To change the bulb I pull the peg and slide the shadow box off the fixture. This is a small fixture. If yours would be too heavy to remove easily, you could make the glass/plastic slide out.
