Buy an ornate picture frame, some hooks to put under each side of knife rest and a thin piece of wood or thick cardboard for back of frame and use to hang cut glass salt & pepper shakers, beautiful hankies or jewelry or whatever suits your fancy or just put them in a beautiful cut glass bowl

It is a KNIFE REST ..There would be one on the table in front of the person that carved the meat ...after slicing the knife would rest there until more meat was wanted ...the person eating the meal would rest their knife on their plates when not using it .

As everyone has said, 'yes' they are knife rests. They keep a host's tablecloth clean when not using the knife during the meal. Look for a nice shallow, large bowl then place them all in the bowl and display it on a coffee table (good conversation piece) or dining room table (as a lovely centerpiece) or USE them ... if you wish. They are lovely and I sure wish they were mine!
