Try mixing some Mod Podge with a few drops (the more drops you use the more pronounced the color will be) of food coloring of your choice. Then paint the insides with the mixture. After it dries it looks like tinted glass. If you do this I don't believe that you can use any liquid on the inside of the jar. But they sure look pretty.
I painted the outside with chalk paint and they look really nice. I want to try the project where you mix mod podge with food coloring for the inside.

try this with an old jar first, put a small amount of paint into the jar, lid on. then swirl the paint around, leave to drive. If not completeley covered, add more paint.
