No. Please do not buy only one type, color, or style of frame. It is nice if they match the decor of the room and the contents of the frame. Having them matching each other is not needed.
I use all types of frames, different sizes and textures. When shopping, you usually gravitate towards what you'll love! You can plan more carefully if doing a more formal wall, otherwise anything goes.

I've always tried to keep the color the same through out the room but not throughout the whole house. I just find it less distracting and cluttered... it lets your attention focus on what's in the frame. I do however, stay with no more than 3 colors in the house, but that's just me.
