DIY bird feeder

Day camp is almost over but we don't start school here til mid-Aug. I want to make an easy birdfeeder with my kids. This is what I remember from being a girl scout. Start with a toilet paper tube, spread peanut butter on it. Pour birdseed onto a paper plate. Roll PB covered toilet paper roll in the seed so it will stick. Cut a 1-2 foot long piece of yarn or string. thread it through the roll and out the other end. Make a big loop with the yarn/string hanging out of the tube. Hang 'birdfeeder' on a branch or railing by the string/ yarn, near a window, so you can see who visits for lunch:) Any suggestions?
