Gel stain will not last. Regular stains absorb. Gel stain sits on top of wood. I will not work. Possibly a coating on top may preserve it but alone it has a short life.
Hi there, because you're dealing with steal I would always suggest a good steel paint (such as rustoleum) or it probably won't last.
Paints specifically made for metal will work. Look for a quality brand like Rustoleum.
Some of the thicker gel stains are made to use on metal. Here is a link to one:

What look are you hoping for? Maybe there’s a better product for this that we know of. :)
You might ask the manufacturer directly for the most reliable answer.
Nope. Gel stain not made for metal. If your looking for a wood grain look use Contact Paper or peel and stick wallpaper. Otherwise you can use Rustoleum 2X spray paint.
I would not. I would look into appliance paint instead.
I don’t think it will stick. Cover with contact paper for a wood look. Scuff with steel wool, wipe with alcohol, then spray paint with RustOleum.
No, it won’t work. You can use appliance spray paint.
Definitely not. Spray versions tend to work the best.
Minwax makes a gel stain that delivers uniform color evenly on wood and non-wood surfaces, such as metal, veneer, and fiberglass.

Yes you can!!!!!
Nope gel stain does not work on metal. If you want to change the color buy some Rustoleum which is made for metal. It is going to take more spray cans than you think for an even color.
