Closets built on a window wall

Sometime ago I saw a photo and directions on how to build a closet on either side of a window. A plank desk sat under the window. So one small closet, then the desk, then the other closet. I cannot find the photo anymore. Does anyone have any idea of what I am trying to explain. When we built our house (by ourselves) we didn't include closets. Now 10 years later I would really like closets. The photo look simple enough...at least I think I can build them...but I lost the direction in a computer crash.

I looked through all the posts tagged as closets and found nothing that would fit.

Thanks. I have looked too. I have no idea where I saw the photo. I don't know what site it was on. I know it was bookmarked a long time ago. This is what happens when you build your own house and wait to finish it inside because over the years the chicken house, greenhouse, garage/wood shop, extra buildings and such come first. And after all that, grizzly adams-pet name for mate of 45 years) is tired of building and really happy with laying stuff on chairs. Thanks for your reply. Karen

  Oh, I sure feel for you @Karen. I'm in a similar boat as you. We were the contractor for our home construction and hubby the kids and I did most of the work. Hubby getting the brunt of it all. He still enjoys it, but have very little time as he also travels. Our adult son lives with us again so he has been a great help, but still it's a very slow process. The worst part for us is finishing one project before we start another for some reason. If I see anything around the net I'll be sure to come back here and link you.

  @Karen, I think I may have a solution for you so you'll get the closets and desk you want, without having to build actual closets. Why not install a wardrobe on each side and add a desk between them? The big box stores carry various sizes.

  @Z I have also looked at that option. I just can't afford anything like that, or even wal-marts version of them. I have looked at estate sales too. I wanted this whole thing to be less than 100.00. We are retired. I thought 2x4's would be cheaper. That is if one builds a closets out of 2x4's. Someone gave us a bunch of hollow core doors so I already have them. Thank you for writing. I guess I just need to find out how to build a closet. Otherwise I will just put an extra chair back into the room (grin).

  @Karen, yes, you do use 2x4's and drywall for building closets. I do know a little about construction so maybe I can help. Give me some time as I've a busy few days ahead of me here getting the house ready, writing a couple articles for the blog I write for and laundry before I leave to visit our daughter and her family. I'm sure during breaks I can find a couple pictures and write up some info that could help you build your own. The drywall will be the hardest, you'll need help cutting and putting that up. Guess you'll have to force Grizzly ;^) to help you with that. LOL

  @Z Thank you very much. The directions in wikihow was just what I needed. I think I can go from that. I tried loading some of the videos too. Though I have adsl..it is of a rural type and often do not load or take a very long time . But the first link is wonderful. Thank you for helping me. I am not so fearful of attempting this now. I saw that too. It is not what I had marked. But in the photo I had they had a closet built on either side of a bed (which was under the window)...I was going to put the desk there. You reminded this old woman of the actual photo, so I will keep looking. Thank you for jarring my memory. Karen
