Kids love making butterflies. Use clothespin for body and open filter, lay flat and twist in the middle. Clip with a clothespin, Use magic markers to decorate.
My grandchildren and I like to tie-dye coffee filters before we make flowers or butterflies from them. I fix ceramic cups and bowls, which can be bleached later, with water and artificial and natural colors, such as the colors we use for dying Easter eggs. Some filters are folded in half, then folded like a fan, then each end is dipped in a different cup of color. Some are folded into fourths, then the edges are dipped in a lighter color almost to the tip. When those filters are almost dry, only the last inch of the edges is dipped in a darker color. Dried and refolder these become butterflies. And sometime we brush paint or finger spatter paint the filters. Cool and cheap.
