I want to make a blanket or something out of hockey socks, need ideas

    Sounds like an ambitious task! I don't think I'd cut them, the knit would ravel easily. It would probably be a very warm blanket though.

    When you do a tee-shirt quilt, you iron on a backing (interfacing) to keep it from stretching. Perhaps this method might be "translated" to use with socks? You could trace the sock outline, cut a piece of the iron-on interfacing, stick it inside the sock and iron it. The sock would keep its outline. Then whip-stitch the socks to each other. Another idea. Trace only the leg area and leave the foot to dangle. Overlap a foot over the top of a stabilized sock and sew it down. Make a bunch of these and whip-stitch them together. Lastly... just whip-stitch the socks to a backing, layer it, then quilt and bind. Would make a HEAVY quilt but I bet you'd never be cold again! Just a couple of ideas. I've never worked with socks but have with tee-shirts.
