I have a bad habit of hanging onto magazines. I started using them in decoupage projects

I like magazines with lots of colorful advertising, animal and food pictures, and cartoon characters in the ads. I made ABC books for two of my granddaughters, and an animal book for one grandson. I used small photo albums with sticky paper on the mounting side and full size transparent sheets on the cover of each sheet. I found an upper and lower letter for each ABC, and two or more items for each one. X is for X-ray and xylophone. I did the animal book by analogy, since the grandson was a little older and crazy about rare or unfamiliar animals. Animals included anything like insects, birds, mammals, fish, etc. I also had my high school English students use magazine pictures and words and their own drawings to make a dictionary of words and characters and events for different stories and novels on their reading list. They all enjoyed this project. And it took many magazines. You could make similar books for a children’s hospital (call them first to see if they accept homemade books). A nursing home or rehab center could probably use books that would amuse, bring mystery, just entertain patients. And centers for those with memory difficulties and Alzheimer's could use those with common objects and the names of them with their patients. One just opened a few miles from my house.

I hope this gives you some ideas. 😇

If you have an old piece of wood lying around, they make for great decoupage material!
