Does anyone know what this is?

Z on Aug 28, 2015This is just a wild guess, but the notches on the sides appear to the right size to hold Aperitif glasses, so I'm guessing some sort of bar.Helpful Reply

Patricia Bell on Aug 30, 2015I would guess it might be missing some wooden pieces from inside. Imthink it was used as a bar with bottles and glasses"Helpful Reply

Nancy Nesbitt on Aug 30, 2015While it definitely could have been a mobile "bar", my first thought was a mobile scientific research cabinet or medicine cabinet. The notches would have held test tubes, vials, or bottles of medicine. There was obviously a shelf above these. Did the pedestal base come with it? I think that no matter what it is, it is a very cool item!Helpful Reply

Sarah A. Victory on Aug 30, 2015I would say a mini- bar also as people use to close off their liquor cabinet per the chained door. Would do double duty as a fantastic plant stand--maybe lamp table.Helpful Reply

D wright on Aug 30, 2015There may be some reason why it is on a pedestal--do you know anyone in fraternal groups such as masons, or Kof C?Helpful Reply

Joanne Costello on Aug 30, 2015I thought collection box when I saw the coin slot on the door but notched rails??? There seems to be a logo on it on the inside of the door. Have you tried Goodling it?? Might want to check an antique dealer before any refinishing.Helpful Reply

Marty Flanakin on Aug 31, 2015I agree with Joanne Costello. I'd try Googling it or check with antique dealer before touching it with anything. Is that a "key" per se that is in the "slot" or are those 2 separate sides?Helpful Reply

Debra on Sep 03, 2015I had something years ago that one person told me it was probably made for a specific task that is lost to time. This may be the case here. The base looks to be a different time period added later. It looks like it had a slide in shelf at one time. The notches look like they may have held tobacco pipes at a guess.Helpful Reply
