  • I've flipped lots of pieces in my time. My most recent is a kid's Ikea dresser that I artfully stuck some wood pieces onto, painted the whole thing, painted the wood pieces darker, and the knobs gold. Turned out pretty cool!

Hi Amy, when i moved out on my own I had very little money, I was gifted a square wood look coffee table that had 4 glass panels on top. I immediately had a vison for this coffee table. I wen to Kmart and bought some grey spray paint and some grey speckle stone finish. I removed the glass panels and set them aside, cleaned it and lightly sanded it. Then put the first coat of grey on it, One more coat of grey, then it was ready for the speckle stone, because I did a base coat in grey, I only needed one can of speckle stone finish! I waited for that coat to dry and put two coats of clear matte over it. That table lasted 15 years till we upgraded to a new table, I was able to sell it for $50

I've been flipping furniture since the 80's. My favorite is probably a sofa table that had been stained a super dark walnut and high gloss. I picked up a quart of "oops" turquoise paint. Stripped it and paint. Everyone comments on how pretty it is.

The piece you show is Golden Oak and looks great as it is. I would only paint timber that is damaged beyond repair.

The piece I flipped was a ceramic table top, signed by the author.

We found it with a few cracked tiles by a dumpster in the rain. It would not fit in the rental car as is. So we went to a local hardware store and bought a hammer and chisel for removing it from the base. That took about 1/2 hour. All the pieces came home.

Next a co-worker said her husband can cut tile. When we got the tiles back, we mounted them on a piece of 3/4" plywood. Attached the tiles, grouted and stuck it on the wall, just beautiful. I since then made a frame of wine bottle corks.

The best flip I did was a entertainment center that was made of the cheap pressed wood.....super heavy! I Used a Zinsser primer, then painted it a soft ivory which was the same color as my living room and dining room walls. I added the hardware to hang my stemmed glassware into the TV area and was able to include some nice glass pitchers etc. to that area. It also houses other dinnerware items, table cloths, napkins, etc. When I sold the home, the buyers asked me to leave it as it fit in perfectly! i was happy to do so. Win-win for everyone.

  • I love flipping furniture. My favorites mix, paint and natural wood and then adding furniture transfers. The transfers make the furniture look as if it's been hand painted and takes the entire design up a notch.
