Pat...We used two old louvered doors and kinda propped against the wall on both sides. It works well for us and is easily removed should we need to get to the heater! Good luck!
You could make a screen out old doors and a few hinges. I get old doors from salvage yards or Habitat for Humanity ReStore
Use a light weight folding screen
You could also hang two lightweight curtain rods from ceiling hooks. Then put a couple of colorful single flat bed sheets on the rods. Just run the rod through the hem.
Simply make the best of it and paint it up in a whimsical way. Maybe make it look like a giant bottle of Clorox or your favorite laundry soap. Cut outs or large letters could be adhere by gluing magnets on whatever you place on the heater.....otherwise, as other's have suggested, use a screen to hide it. Personally, I'd try to make it useful or as art.
