How can I make a rectangular hanging pot rack with lights?

I'd like to have a metal or wooden hanging pot rack over my island. If the ends are suspended, I think I could add a ceiling fan above it. I'm leaning toward a farm house design, but I'm open to suggestions and details.

I would search yardsales and flea markets for old iron gates or railings, and make the pot rack out of that

I saw the most adorable "ladder" light fixture at a party. She also used it to hang pots and pans. Pretty clever how it was wired up too. Not sure I would suspend a fan over it though.
