You can purchase "Do it Yourself" metals from Etsy. There are probably other online sites that sell them too.

Get some "free sample" pieces of tile flooring. Most come on a peg, so the hole is already there. Then paint or dec o poge your image on to the sample. I would use ribbon through the hole to make a "necklace" type award

This is a little more ambitious idea, but if you have an example of what you want, you can get a casting kit from AC Moore or Michael's, make a mold, and cast them in resin, then finish them with a rub on metallic finish which looks much more realistic than spray paint. Alternately, if you want one sided medals, you can make a one sided mold and press in polymer clay.

Check out craft stores for small discs made from wood or metal. Then decorate with the theme of your even. You can find lots of free clip art with Olympic designs online which you can print out & then glue to your disks. It should be easy to pole a hole in them & then string with ribbon! What fun!

Flats from canning jars would make great medals for the event. You could keep them the gold color and just put a sticker or olympic 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc on each medal. Use a piece of wood and punch two holes to lace ribbon through and tie around neck. Also, flats are easily spray painted.
