How can my 1 yr. old's rock collection become a paerweight for Father?

My child learned the word rock and collected many in a pail. I want to package them to form a paperweight for her father's desk for Father's Day.

How about having your daughter help place some of the stones in a mason jar and add a lid. Then you could make a hanging tag that says "Daddy you are my rock" and tie it around the mouth of the jar. He can use the jar as a paperweight

You could always wash and paint them and then glue with E6000 glue or a construction adhesive

Paint them, place your child's fingerprints on them, seal with clear acrylic, arrange randomly into a tower or the shape of heart and glue them in place onto a piece of cork. Viola'

Have you considered epoxy? You could lay the rocks out in a rubber coffee can lid and pour a two step epoxy over them.

You can also get resin cast molds. Put the best ones inside and cast it encased forever!

You could help him glue some some together to make a little pile then let him paint them. Give your child ideas like paint a animal or whatever. Just let him do it their way even if it doesn't look like what it's suppose to be. Just ask questions as hes painting so you can whisper to dad what it is so dad can saw wow, look at that dog or whatever the child says it is.

How about writing the word rock on the back of a very small shadow box and just putting the rocks in loosely.

Simply place in a canning jar--pickle jar--whatever you have...baby food jar and spray paint the lid if necessary. I would date it on the bottom or even on or under the lid or just place in a bowl..either way they could hold papers down. Good Luck.

Glue a bunch of them together in the shape of a beagle or other popular dogs, then polyurethane them so they'll look wet all the time ! Great paperweight or desk ornament !
  • I would have your child finger paint the rocks then you could add wiggle eyes to them and glue them together (next to one another) and it creates a family. My kids gave this idea to my husband in preschool and he still had it on his desk...20 years later.
