Thrift stores, see what days have discounts! Also use items from nature: pine cones, acorns, tree branches. Good l uck!
Have you tried a Dollar Tree store. They have very nice decorations for a dollar.
I love Karen's suggestion of using what you can find in nature. Simple can be beautiful. http://alifeunfolding.com/blog-1/2018/9/28/simple-fall-decorating-my-fall-home-tour
Take walks and gather stuff from nature. I always start at dollar stores and work my way up. There are hundreds of ideas here on Hometalk that all start with things you might have around the house or from dollar stores.

I am a Christmas junkie....started in my mid twenties in my first (non-dorm room) place. I rarely had money to splurge on decor so it became a year round game of thrifting and off season discount shopping. I eventually settled into collecting traditional and classic items that are timeless.
I also collect things that take up less storage space. Inexpensive pretty gift bags and boxes that can be unfolded and stuffed with a bit of colored tissue create an artful tumble in a corner or under a coffee table. I also have a huge selection of Christmas tins that nest inside each other.
While you're building your collection, you can start with ribbons and artificial poinsettias blooms. Tuck them into bouquets of greenery (you can "glean " foliage from your backyard or a roadside ditch or buy from your local grocery or florist)
Thanks everyone. Good suggestions.
You may want to start by pickin' up some used things from Goodwill? Yard sales and garage sales usually get rid of a lot of decorations. I just got rid of a ton of different things. Gave to a young couple who was so tickled!!
