You need to press it before it is dry or you will just have crumbs! In my college botany class we did field studies and collected samples which we pressed. We carefully placed the samples between sheets of white paper — make sure the flowers are the way you are going to want them and leaves are spread appropriately—and then put cardboard between samples and clamped them in a frame made for this purpose. At home you could just stack some heavy books on top. Leave the things alone for at least a week.
You dry and press in 1 step! Here is a post where my grandson and I pressed, (and dried) fall leaves. I've pressed and dried many flowers as well.
Put in book. Sandwich flower between folded piece of wax paper so flower spent stain book pages. Leave an end of paper outside in book to make it easy to find.
Place between wax paper and then place in the book. This keeps the pages clean.
